Our Story
In 1951, H.G. “Jerry” Southern began his career at Transport Equipment Company in Philadelphia after leaving Ford Motor Company. He became president in 1968 following the owner’s passing but tragically passed away in 1970. His legacy continued through his son, Jerry Southern Sr., who entered the industry in 1969 as a mechanic, later working his way up through parts and sales.
In 1978, Jerry Sr. left Transport to manage Gallagher Equipment, where he oversaw sales, including in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the UAE. In 1988, he became a partner at Eastern Body before starting his own company, Intercon Truck Equipment, in 1992, with support from Tom Yeager, Don Whitaker, and his son, Jerry Jr. The business expanded in 1996 with the acquisition of Waddle Truck Equipment in Baltimore.
Over the years, Intercon Truck of Baltimore, Inc., has expanded and has the pleasure of serving municipalities and end-users along the East Coast.
In 2017, the leadership at Intercon Truck of Baltimore, Inc. recognized the growing demand for eCommerce and launched ITEParts.com to provide truck equipment and truck equipment parts sales online. The site now serves customers across the U.S. and Canada.
Today, the company employs over 40 people who share the owner’s commitment to exceptional customer service, where “no” is never an option.
Intercon Truck of Baltimore’s success is built on the dedication of its loyal and hard-working employees. Several employees have brought in family members to join the team, and the company has also made a strong commitment to our veteran community, employing veterans and participating in the SkillBridge program.
