Andrew Mihniak | August 13th, 2025

More times than not, if you work within the world of service vehicles, you’ll find yourself looking into the different choices of truck bodies. But what body does what? How do I know if it’s what I need?

Whether it’s hauling large amounts of materials, or just transporting the tools of your job, a new truck body is something that practically anyone who uses their truck for business looks into installing, they’re a source of convenience, and even safety, with countless personalized options there’s sure to be one that is just right for you, so take some time and let us help you decide if an upgraded body is what you need to improve your work life.

What are my Options?

Truck bodies aren’t a simple “one size fits all” type of option, instead there are various different choices that you could decide to make, while there are near countless different options, today we’ll just be talking about some of the most common types:

  • Platform & Stake Bodies
  • Service Bodies
  • Dump Bodies

Now, yes, these all sound very nice and fancy, but what brand even carries what type of body? With so many different choices it’s nice to know who carries what, thankfully Intercon offers plenty of different brand choices that you’ll get to discover as you read on ahead!

Each of these bodies offers their own benefits depending on the field of work you’re planning to take them into, so why don’t we stop wasting time and go ahead and look deeper into what each type can provide for you?

Platform & Stake Bodies

Platform bodies are the perfect choices for trucks that don’t require solid walls or roofs! Most typically being used when it comes to the transportation of more durable cargo such as landscaping equipment or construction equipment, the platform body is a common piece of equipment you’ve likely seen many times while on the road!

Now, did you know that platform bodies are only half of the choice? Crazy news to learn today, I know, but it’s true! Most platform bodies are actually able to be converted into stake bodies, these types of bodies utilize newly installed stake walls to create a new level of choice when it comes to being able to strap down and transport varying different types of cargo. But that ease of use when it comes to cargo storage isn’t all that a stake body can provide, in fact, it’s partly thanks to this ease of storage that stake bodies also allow cargo movement to be exceptionally safer!

These additions already add a new layer of safety and convenience, but what if I told you that you can go even further? Platform and stake bodies are also designed with expansion in mind, allowing us to attach toolboxes and plenty of other storage options!

When it comes to choosing the platform body you want you’ll be happy to hear that Intercon carries plenty of options (including ourselves!):

In the current day and age there’s no reason to worry about how you’re going to transport the large cargo, make your life just that bit easier and look into getting a platform body.

Service Bodies

When it comes to the world of upfits a base service body is going to be one of your most common choices, both from its versatility and ease of use; featuring expanded storage while still keeping the average silhouette of your truck, a service body is a fantastic choice for most trucks and jobs, and in fact, many service bodies are even capable of being expanded on post installation with more storage options and uses!

Now, you might’ve noticed my use of base earlier, well that’s because there’s more than just the regular old truck bed service body to choose from! Alongside the classic old service body you will also often find your choices of enclosed and crane service bodies!

Enclosed bodies tend to be the second most common type of service body, often being seen as their own little workshops, Enclosed bodies offer much more coverage from the element alongside more space for storage.

Crane bodies are often the less commonly seen of the three body types, as the name may suggest, these bodies offer a large crane attachment allowing for more specific tasks to be completed.

Now, these two are just some of several different examples of the many routes your service body can go, but thankfully when it comes to deciding on a your pick of service body, you’ll be happy to know that, much like with platform bodies, Intercon offers plenty of different brands for you to pick from:

Remember! When it comes to your pick of service body there is no wrong choice! With countless years of experience between them all, each brand has the quality and trust to be the right pick!

Dump Bodies

The final body we’re going to look at today is probably the most specific use out of the three. Dump bodies are just as the name implies them to be, bodies specifically built for the hauling and dumping of materials and equipment. You’ll most commonly see dump bodies used by landscapers and construction crews, with their advanced hydraulic systems allowing crews to effortlessly move around larger materials that the average truck otherwise wouldn’t have been able to move.

When it comes to dump bodies, their usage thrives in specific conditions, but unlike their more narrow range of uses Intercon is happy to offer an incredibly large amount of choices for brands:

The opinions are vast so take your time when searching for what’s right for you! And when you’re ready we’ll be right here prepared to help!
