“I’ll be fine, it rarely even snows around here!” You announced with so much certainty and pride that you basically locked fate in place for the biggest snowstorm you had ever seen. Now you’re standing at your window, staring at your truck then back to the snow flooded driveway. You just finished making the call to get your jobsite cleared up, that alone is going to cost you anywhere from $500 to $1000 depending on the time, but now you have to gear up to shovel the driveway so you can even escape your own home. You think back to your words, deciding that a plow simply wasn’t worth it, after all, it barely snows here. You’re left thinking about the time you could’ve saved had you just agreed to that purchase, going so far as to think of the money you and your company could’ve made had you owned your own fleet, but instead, you’re left waiting for someone else to come by and save you.
Whether it’s just to be used in commercial work, or you simply envision yourself being the hero of your neighborhood, a snowplow is one of the greatest purchases a truck owner can ever make. Snow can come suddenly and can become incredibly troublesome much faster than we expect it to be; while at one minute it can feel as if there’s barely anything sticking, it won’t be long until you, your property, your friends and neighbors are suddenly trapped in piles and piles of endless snow and ice.
“How do I know I’m getting the right plow?” is a good question to ask, and it’s why Intercon and ITEParts are here to help. We work hard to offer an incredibly wide variety of snowplows to choose from, so take some time and check out what we have to offer. By the end you too will probably see the blessing that is a snowplow!
What Plows do you Offer?
When it comes to options, Intercon and ITEParts are proud to have various different choices of plows, with our personal top two choices being:
BOSS Snowplow – Beginning work in 1985, BOSS has 40 years of work under their belt and is seen as one of the top leaders in the snow and ice management industry. They work to provide plows for any situation.

WESTERN – Western ranks alongside BOSS as one of the leading manufacturers of snow and ice control products, offering everything from Commercial Grade plows to personal and light-use options.

How do I Make the Right Choice?
When it comes to plows there are very few times that there is a “right choice”, both BOSS Plows and WESTERN have their benefits when it comes to their countless options of plows, and while both are close when it comes to their general performance, it is still very common to have a personal favorite out of the two.
BOSS Plows has a wide selection of plows, on light and personal-use plows, featuring plowing options such as the DXT, Super Duty, and more Commercial focused products like the Drag Plow, each plow is built to ensure you can get the job done no matter the size or strength of the plow.
But of course, BOSS isn’t your only option for plows, much like BOSS, WESTERN works to feature a wide selection of plows, from the Defender to the Wide-Out (or Wide-Out XL), even to something smaller like the Pile-Driver, Western works hard to ensure they offer a bounty of options.
Both companies are industry leaders in what they offer, and it is because of that, that they are both amazing options when it comes to the choices you can make, and if you ever want to dive into even deeper detail on the types of plows each company offers, you can also check them out either on their home websites or over on ours!
No matter which choice you make, it’s near impossible to make a truly “wrong” choice.
Don’t Forget your Limits.
A plow can only be effective as the vehicle it’s attached to, and every truck has its own limits to what it can properly support and offer before it starts running the risk of getting damaged.
Before you buy a plow for your truck you’ll need to find out what the front gross axle weight rating (also known as the FGAWR) is, this rating exists to give you some of the most important information on what the maximum weight is that that the front axle of your truck can support, this weight limit also exists for the rear of the truck, but since we’re talking about just plows today we will only be focusing on the front of the truck.
Safety is a number one focus, no matter what tool it is that you’re using, so it is always of an absolute top priority to be aware of this limit. Any damage to your truck can be incredibly detrimental to the stability of the truck, and even more dangerous to you as a driver. Thankfully, finding the information on this limit is fairly easy, most trucks will have a gross axle weight rating on the truck’s vehicle identification number label, also known as the VIN Label, in the threshold of the driver’s side door. If you cannot find this or believe that the sticker is missing or even worn away then you also have the option of using a little bit of math to calculate the limit.
If you check right below, you’ll see an example of what your VIN label and this information as a whole might look like:

If you can’t find your VIN Label then there’s plenty of equations you can find online, or you can even get in contact with employees and customers of Intercon and ITEParts and post a question on our official forum!
