Common Applications
This specific lock nut is found in various assembly locations, including:
-
Electrical Components: Securing the solenoid housing, plastic covers, or wiring harness clips where metal-to-metal contact needs to remain tight despite road vibration.
-
Headlight Brackets: Part of the hardware used to mount SmartLight headlight assemblies (SL3, SL2, etc.) to the plow frame.
-
SmartHitch2 Mechanisms: Used in the coupler tower latch kits and associated small linkage components.
-
UTV/ATV Skid Plates: Used to fasten protective skid plates and undercarriage components on smaller BOSS plow models.
Key Features
-
Vibration Resistance: The integrated nylon collar grips the bolt threads to prevent the nut from backing off, eliminating the need for lock washers.
-
Corrosion Protection: Like all yellow zinc BOSS hardware, this nut is designed to resist “white rust” and salt corrosion significantly better than standard clear zinc or stainless steel fasteners.
-
Reusability: While these nuts can be reused, they lose a portion of their locking ability each time they are removed. It is generally recommended to use new lock nuts during major maintenance or repairs.
